I so desperately want to believe that stars *are* aligning:
1) Sony and PS4:
- Like many of us conjecture, Shenmue is very much so best well known among the core gamer crowd and Kaz Hirai and the rest of the media train for PS4 are pushing hard to have the PS4 recognized as a core gaming focused console first and foremost (
http://ca.ign.com/articles/2013/05/30/s ... es-console). Consequently, being able to be the ones who are finally able to make the incredibly elusive and near mythical Shenmue 3 a reality would actually do *quite a bit* for Sony's credibility for the core gamers - heck, even whether or not said gamers have played the Shenmue series to begin with, given just how well known the IP actually is by word of mouth and cult reputation. And,
- Mark Cerny, PS4 chief architect and closely knit Sony game developer head, is one of the most industry celebrated, well known, and closest friends of Yu Suzuki. *And*, he has a fully knowledgeable and intimate understanding about what Shenmue is and what the overarching circustances surrounding the IP are.
And,
2) Nintendo and WiiU:
- Yes, Nintendo and Sega has very recently just announced the very real and intimately close working relationship that they now have with each other. So closely knit are the two that Yakuza HD and Sonic exclusives are reality for the WiiU. And considering *just how desperately* Nintendo must be working to get as many big exclusives from big name companies on the WiiU, it isn't unrealistic for us to dream about Shenmue on WiiU.
But, whatever the case is, like someone else posted, yes - a brand new generation of consoles has dawned upon us
yet again. Which means that we'll have yet another five-seven years to struggle and clash in our ever ongoing campaign to finally have Shenmue concluded in one generation or another.
Good luck to us.
