Its another one of those Patents that i really hope goes no where.

I'm surprised MS even made such a big deal out of TV seeing as 1. Its only available in the US at launch and 2 you need an add on for it to work

I think you're being kind of in denial if you think that this type of this isn't going full steam ahead. There's already demand and precedent for these sorts of things with sites such as Miso, GetGlue and Trakt.tv. The difference here is that a camera can actively watch you to make sure you're not "cheating" or some other such nonsense achievements.

Yeah but he's saying since you need to have something extra for it to work (what add-on in the HISTORY of gaming has been mildly successful, let alone wide-spread) and it's only in US territories at the moment.

If they really wanted this to be successful, they needed to have this thing in (best case, they might include the add-on in the box) and make it more wide-spread. In a world ruled by Facebook and Twitter, watching other people around the world do shit is more common place. Maybe someone in some part of the world figured something cool out with it and prompts many other people to try.

That's all pure speculation at this point. Advertising achievements for product placement? The Wayne's World vid in one of the news links exemplifies that PERFECTLY.

You are aware that the kinect is required? I'm 100% sure it will be included when you buy it. The only other item you need is a cable box, and I think that the people who are going to want to buy the XBone are definitely going to have a cable box.

I'd actually love the idea of this if they took the piss. For example, a "Simpsons Did It" achievement if there's two adults and three kids on one couch, a "Please Vacate the Room" achievement if a PS4 or Wii-U ad comes on, or an "Into the Lion's Den" achievement if someone wearing a rival team's shirt is watching the match in your home (although I doubt the new supposedly infra-red system would be able to pick up on this)

Either way, it opens up a new door of creativity, but instead I can see it going the way Kenny suggested.

Not sure how that's related to what I said, but yes. I am. To make it more relevant to what i'm saying, though, you are aware the Kinect comes WITH this new XBOX? Right?

I don't have cable, so theoretically I would be paying for a feature that will cost extra (both cable and the box) if that is indeed the add-on they're referring to. Whereas with the 360, I get everything I paid for in the retail box unless I want to play some motion based games (which I don't anymore).
