That's what I would do aswell. If you follow all the news today you basically get to see about half the game before it gets released. They're really overdoing it with videos since YouTube made streaming videos huge and gaming sites following with their own video systems.
Back then all you had were magazines. You read what the editors were thinking about the game and stared at screenshots for minutes and hours. You had a vague impression what the game would feel like but playing it was a whoooooole different story. It was pure magic that way!
When Shenmue II came out, the Dreamcast was already dead in magazines here in Germany and my subscription ended so I had no clue about how it would turn out at all. I didn't even know it got released. I saw it just standing there in a store on a random shopping tour and my jaw dropped big time!
Not knowing much, let alone anything about a game prior to it's release is something you actually work hard for nowadays. But the effect is just awesome!
