With Shenmue 3, I have created a new structure covering roughly chapters 5 and 6. Next a story - a new story - is fitted against that structure.

Well it's not clear if Shenmue 3 really covers two chapters only. Tbf, I have no idea of what he means exactly.

Question : Can you tell us more about the composition stage?
Yu Suzuki : Shenmue III is based on the 11 chapters created 17 years ago (1998), and each chapter is set in different regions. For example, the first chapter was set in Yokosuka, second was set in Hong Kong and so on. However with Shenmue III it won't do to complete just one chapter's worth in one region, so I have restructured the underlying story to fit the budget.

I hope so. My big wish is, that we will get Shenmue IV and V on Playstation 5 in a few years.

Shenmue IV would be a great launch-game for the next playstation in 2020 ...

Well I can't figure out just TWO chapters!

Suppose Shenmue 1 was one chapter and Shenmue 2 was chapters 3, 4 and 5?

That leaves, at a minimum of 2 chapters a game, Shenmue 3 being chapters 6 and 7... and even 8 if the expanding scope of each sequential game holds true!

Bear in mind that

he didn't say that Ryo will have to fight it. Maybe he will have to run away from it, or dodge its attacks then leave, or climb a tree to get out of its reach. An event involving a bear could be many different things.

I had completely forgotten if Chapter 2, the boat was canon or not. So yeah it makes sense if Chapter 5 is Guilin that started in Shenmue 2 and ends in Shenmue 3.

If they ever re-release the first and second games again it'd be nice to have Yu Suzuki finally clairfy which part of the games he sees as individual chapters and perhaps just have a typical black screen enphasising the start of a new chapter, and then continue that method in Shenmue 3, 4, etc. Not only would it help us, it would truely demonstrate to new players the sheer scale of the series, and stop people thinking of the series as a trilogy

Shenhua talked about bears, saying they're calm but attack if you are near the baby bears.

Probably it will be one of those scenes were Shenhua goes to calm the bear, or have to sneak or something like that.
