Like I said in the other topic, I don't think anyone hates L.A. Noire, they just hate that it failed to deliver on it's promises. I liked it, and it's a fine example of the current gen, but outside the missions it had absolutely nothing to it. I'm one of those guys who doesn't like fast travel, but I couldn't help but skip as many journeys as possible coz of how boring driving round L.A. was. I didn't even care about missing out on street crimes.
Segata made a good comparison with Alan Wake. I liked Alan Wake, I thought it was pretty decent (although the lip-synching was fucking atrocious), but it wasn't as good as what the developers initially led you to believe it was. However, in Alan Wake's case, I remember Remedy (it was them who developed it, right?) took the time to come out and say "people are getting the wrong idea about the game, it isn't like this, it's like that". As far as undelivered promises go, L.A. Noire was more akin to anything Molyneux-related. Granted, it would've been difficult to actually meet those expectations, but we have them for a reason.
I defo didn't hate the game though, and I'm actually trying to forget as much as possible about it so I can return to it next year, enjoy it all over again with the DLC, then start mopping up a few achievements here and there.
...and I reckon it was GTA IV that received the most unwarranted hate this season. Fucking brilliant game, excellent online multiplayer, but had an unfair amount of haters because of the high scoring reviews, colour palette, and the friends aspect. Aside from the original, it's actually the first Liberty City-based GTA game I actually enjoyed (that segment in San Andreas doesn't count)
I actually reckon in-game cameras were perfected in GTA IV too. I could never go back to III or Vice City after playing SA coz of the uncontrollable camera, and it was annoying in SA when the camera was also linked to the driving stick (never understood this) I honestly can't think of another game though that has executed right thumbstick camera control as well as GTA IV. And, in a slight arse-kissing moment towards Segata, it had possibly the best and most value for money DLC this gen.
