With nothing but negative press since its inception, it was either destined to succeed based on notoriety or fail. In this case, I guess it failed but so did Tomb Raider and Hitman by those estimates.
Besides, I don't get the point of mentioning DmC over and over and over and over and over and over and over again even if this time it's relevant to a degree. I recognize its flaws but thought it was a good enough experience, but then I moved on. Even with MGR, which I thought was terrible on some levels, I got over it and moved on. And i'm a huge MGS fan.

Without character/franchise evolution, we would never have The Dark Knight Returns or the original TMNT cartoon or Sonic Adventure. If they didn't wrap up the story of the original series, then yeah, that's a bit fuckin shit of em, but reboots or taking a series out of it's comfort zone doesn't necessarily lead to a bad thing. Take Conviction, for example. Hated it as a Splinter Cell game, but it's still one of my favourite games this gen. Sometimes you just have to appreciate different interpretations for what they are as opposed to what they're not.
I still think DmC didn't deviate THAT much from the character of Dante. In DMC3, he was just as bratty and cocky. Only difference aside from hair and attire was that he didn't cuss or flip the bird. That's it, really.
The only superb DMC game is the first one anyway. That's the only one I love to play over and over again.
