Happy days

Postby mue 26 » Sun Jan 05, 2014 1:36 am

What was the best period your life so far? Was it your wistful early childhood, do you feel you peaked during your high school jock days, did you have a particularly great romantic experience that made you feel alive, or do you feel like your currently gloriously empowered or going through a renaissance? Or maybe you've experienced no such thing and are seeking to change? What are your happy days?

Myself, hmm, I think I'm more happy, hopeful and able to enjoy life now than at any time in the past. That doesn't mean I feel truly happy and content with where I'm at right now, but I definitely feel closer to that goal than at any time in the past. But I definitely feel the best is yet to come, 100%. I'm being kinda brief and vague here I know, but I'm a wee bit tired right now as it's half 5 in the morn and I've not sleep...which is probably why I'm being reflective.

Yeah, I know I should have posted some Sinatra or something due to the turn of phrase I used, but I like this better.

I'm happy now and if I wasn't I'd do something about it but there is one thing I miss which you kinda loose as you become an adult. That feeling you have as a kid/teenager of having no responsibilities and being able to do what you like and when. Just being able to do fuck all with your mates for 7 days a week and not having to worry about something stupid like a phone or car bill. During the summer holidays me and my friends could spend hours playing football, Mario Kart 64, just riding bikes around or hopping on a bus to go to the cinema and not even have the thought of work the next day popping in your head.

What about 2009? That was a pretty terrible year for me. Maybe my worst year ever.

@Riku, I think my general unhappiness and low self esteem as a child outweighed the feeling of freedom from responsibility, so I'm while I'm still nostalgic about my childhood to an extent, probably less so than many,

Fuck man, 1999-2006.

Pure bliss as a kid, going out playing football everyday, PS1/Dreamcast/PS2. Absolutely owning everyone at FIFA 2004, well not quite. Some good memories playing games with old schoolmates on PS2.

Late summer nights, the music, the technology (v3 rzr), great perioid.

Only regrets is I wish I wasn't so retarded with girls back then.

I do look back quite fondly at the pre- 07 years in a way, only for the reason that I had like literally never used the internet (and barely a PC) until then. Don't get me wrong, the net is cool and all, but it claims a portion of one's innocence that you can't get back.

Now. When I leave Japan and move back to Chicago I will probably be devastated to the point where I just move back to Japan.

Me and Rakim know exactly where you're coming from brother Shozo. Seriously though, glad to hear you're having a blast.

1997-2000 for video gaming. N64 into the Sega Dreamcast and buying games was such a thrill, as well as watching GamesMaster and buying N64 and Official Dreamcast Magazine. Sheer gaming bliss.

But the past year has just been the best year of my life. Travelling the world, experiencing new and amazing things, meeting new people and most of all, meeting the love of my life. The best era of my life is now, and still going strong, where I have found myself and found the one that I love. Each day I am smiling like Ive never done before. Just sensational.

You just brought a tear to my eye, kid. You must be glad you stuck with it, I remember when you first got to Australia you didn't like it and were thinking of just coming back.

Yea Thats the ups and downs of travelling, and what makes you search deep inside yourself to find out who you really are and also what your made of. Once you do that, the world through your eyes changes.

You know I'm proof about this one here. Surely when you get back you'll like being home, having the things you missed, the people will surely give you a wider range in feelings of hate and love, but in the end ya.. if you're anything like me you're going to want to go back to Japan eventually.
I give you 5 years cause thats how long it took me and my wife to stretch ourselves.
She went back every other year for vacation, but me I havent been back for the whole 5 years and it feels like forever. One of the great excuses to myself I had at the time to marry my wife was so that I could go back to Japan without feeling like a jerk to my family.
You could end up being different about it all though. From what we've discussed in the past, you have all the right and reason to go back home and stay home. ;) You can always make a vacation every year or so for Japan. Flight prices are pretty cheap these days. Best of luck to you.

Something i'm missing here? Did you guys used to live in Japan or just referring to vacation(s)?
