The last 5 or 6 month's I haven't been gaming at all. I got a new DC in from Ebay the same day S3KS was announced. Since then it's been only Shenmue.

I'm not the biggest gamer as is, minus GTA, NBA 2K, and a few other's anyway.

i stopped playing for a number of years but slowly getting back into it. the alternative is just to watch crap on tv.

maybe im getting old but the main 2 things i check before buying a game these days are 1.the game review rating and 2 .how long the game is.

when i was a kid i thought it was great value for money when a game was long but now i dread when a "great" game is well over 30hours long. ](*,)

This is how I am with movies and games. The longer the better.

with games like

Deus Ex
TLG
Kingdom Hearts 3
Shenmue 3

coming, I feel like the 3, 4 and 5 years of this gen could be better than the last one at least.

Even though last gen did have a lot of titles that can't be had now

The issue I have is that it's pretty hard to get a good AAA arcade racer now. Not even ridge racer. PS1 and ps2 are sti 2 of the best overall systems for me, along with the NES.

I rarely game these days, I was unhappy in life sitting in doors gaming non stop and then one day I decided I will go to university, socialise, lose weight, get a girlfriend, I started a career, I am learning a language and that takes up most of my free time.

I spend on average 10 hours a week over the weekend which is much less than what it was before.

I thought about doing so a number of times over the last few years. I tend to "quit" fairly often, but then always end up coming back to play something that interests me. Recently it's been some indie games and Splatoon and Woolly World. I definitely feel I've lost a lot of interest in the hobby and I think it kind of makes me feel depressed in a way. Like, I mean it's fun when you're playing, but after I just think "what have I achieved from this?" and it feels empty and meaningless, unless it's a really special game that really connects to me or it's a game I can socialise with friends over.

Interesting topic. In the GC/PS2 era I loved playing games. So many great games, I think as gamers we were really spoiled in that time period, hence my big PS2 backlog!
During that time I got really into retro gaming, bought a SNES, a Saturn and a Dreamcast. Man those were some great times. So many new experiences.
Playing Super Mario All Stars and World with a big grin on my face. Importing Chrono Trigger and Earthbound from the US and be amazed again. Playing Soul Calibur and Shenmue I and II on the DC, pure heaven.

But then the Wii/PS3 era arrived and I really felt disappointed. Yes there were some good games, but nothing wowed me big time. Motion gaming wasn't doing it for me and most of big blockblusters were bad to okayish to me (Portal 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Uncharted, GTA IV, Bioshock Infinite). I felt disconnected with the industry itself. So many gamers are enjoying these new games and I fucking hate them.

I didn't play for a year, but then one day I replayed Super Mario Bros. 3 and I finally finished it (for a first time) and that was a turning point and It felt like a geniunely liked playing a game again. After that I dug in my massive backlog and played some old JRPG's I have been neglecting for ages. Althought those games are pretty time-consuming and only a teenager can handle that, haha.

Nowadays I'm really picky about games and I only play games I really like. Sometimes I still make mistakes and buy a bad game and I try to play it to the end and see what the big fuzz is all about :-k. This happened to me three weeks ago with The Last of Us. I thought this game was extremely bad and people are talking about that it defined the Ps3. Aah that's why I probably did'nt like that generation, ha!

I have to say that Sony's E3 conference was pretty amazing and I got really thrilled about gaming again. Now I hope Team Ico, Square-Enix and Yu Suzuki can deliver some great games on the PS4. I missed them on the PS3.

There are times I just don't like to play games and then I don't play for weeks and then suddenly I see this awesome game in my backlog that deserves attention.

I've never necessarily quit gaming but as others have stated life has kept me busier than when I was younger. Right now there's a big lull and I'm just waiting on a couple games to release. I only bought 2 games last year Danganronpa 1 and 2. I've always been selective of games I purchase and that gladly hasn't changed.

Games this year: Yakuza 5, Persona 5 (which I'm not a big rpg fan by any stretch of the imagination but Persona is the exception). Danganronpa another episode. I'm hoping Square Enix release a Life Is Strange disc release for ps3 but that's doubtful considering they released a Sleeping Dogs and Tomb Raider upgraded versions for ps4.

Games next year are: ME Andromeda, Last Guardian, unannounced Quantic Dream game, Uncharted 4, Zero Escape 3.

 oh, what fresh hellish idea is this?!
give up gaming...and vice.
just, can't compute that line of thought, takes a nuke, or civil unrest to get those priorities in order... :???:
gonna go ahead and say it, odd subject on a game (shenmue specific) forum, or a great bait thread.
...
for what it's worth, can's say it's something i'll give up voluntarily, need to put bullets square in me for that to be a possibility.
life can throw a fuckin spanner in the gears.
each to their own way of coping.

I'm on an off from time to time, just playing some adventure games. I mostly play them to see what they're doing and if there is some kind of interesting approach for my game.

But fuck I guess that it's time to stop, I just don't get that inspiration that I get from just reading, or even watching a really good movie.

Playing Destiny made me quit gaming for a few weeks and months. Worst experience ever. ](*,) And for it to be that successful made me hate the direction the gaming industry was heading.

Playing Witcher 3 and that's helped me love gaming again. So well crafted and really made for fans properly. Of course E3 2015 was an absolute bombshell. So both TLG and Shenmue 3 are hugely on my anticipation list as well as RIME and perhaps No Man's Sky.. but the more I see of NMS, the more I'm skeptical it will be that interesting.

Still in the process of selling almost everything.

I plan on owning a Dreamcast USB-GDROM Controller to replace my GD-Rom drive and essentially have the entire library on console. With that I can play Shenmue and Shenmue II in both English and Japanese on my Dreamcast without resorting to CD-R's and voice compression -- thank you UNDUB and English Voice Injection -- it will also greatly extend the lifespan of my console, since I won't have to rely on a disc drive. I also already own an SD2SNES, which is the best decision anyone could make, since SNES emulation is horrible. And I enjoy having nearly the entire SNES library available to me, on console, with zero emulation, since it's my favorite console and the only one I bother to keep hooked up.

Other than those two consoles, there is very little I care about. I will eventually get a PS4 to play Shenmue 3 -- this console will also double as a blu-ray player/entertainment center, so no worries there.

I plan on keeping a few Gamecube, PSX, and N64 games for nostalgia's sake (such as Mystical Ninja, Phantasy Star Online, and Mega Man Legends), but other than that everything else is going. There comes a point where nostalgia only really holds you back. I don't ever really play most of the dumb games I keep for nostalgia's sake and I can get these same nostalgic feelings by just looking them up on youtube real quick. I don't need to hold on to these things for memory's sake. I can remember them just fine. I gotta look towards the future not the past.

Gaming to me is such an overwhelming timewaster of a hobby. It's not bad if you enjoy it, won't knock anybody for doing what they love, but I can't shake the feeling of wanting to do something different with my life. I'd much rather spend my extra time pursuing music or writing -- both of which I love way more than gaming. So when I say gaming is a timewaster, it's not because it's a bad thing, but because I'd prefer to spend my time differently. I'm just so over the whole thing.

I've been gaming since 1989 on the PC, the only time I took a significant break from gaming was probably from 2011 to about 2012 and then various periods throughout 2013.

After the PS2/Xbox/GameCube generation everything changed. Profits were the main concern now that the audience for games had broadened so much, money corrupted gaming last generation. I can easily see why someone would have quit gaming out right. Today, i think things might be a little better and could potentially be alot better in the future, but its still TBD. When we are living in a day where Japan is barely buying consoles anymore, japanese developers seemingly almost given up on trying to make modern console games even, I fear the worst for the games I love.
