Perhaps my most delightful eating experience would be in Takayama after a long day of travelling. We ate at a place near the station called Ajikura which served yakiniku. This was no ordinary yakiniku but Hida beef which naturally, Takayama is in the Hida province of Gifu Prefecture. They say the cows get extra work out walking up and down the hillsides which helps with the tenderness of the meat. It was an amazing meal of the choicest real wagyu Hida beef, costing only around $35 per person and served with corn tea.
