Watch Dogs 2

Postby Riku Rose » Mon Jan 04, 2016 7:37 pm

Keep meaning to go back and try the original game. I was really hyped for it when it was first announced but when it came out I just wasn't in the mood for it.

A possible Ubisoft substitution for this fall’s big Assassin’s Creed could be Watch Dogs 2, which we hear will be out later this year and set in San Francisco.

It's not much but Kotaku have leaked tons of Ubisoft stuff in the past.

Huh, San Fran might be fun...
I think one of the biggest things that killed the first game for a lot of people (and yeah, there was a lot of complaining) was that the city was viewed as being "boring." It was Chicago. But I think what a lot of people failed to accept was that Chicago in real life isn't that exciting to begin with. There was plenty to do in the game, and there was a ton of personality given off by pedestrians and whatnot, but the city is very grey and dirty, and pretty flat as far as roads and such go. So people acted like the game was doing something wrong, when really it was just mimicking the reality of it very well.
I guess a city like San Francisco might provide a contrast to that. The city is sunny, probably not very dirty at all, and obviously the roads will provide lots of ramping and jumps. I can imagine the gameplay of the first being transposed onto the city of San Francisco and providing some really great action scenes, definitely.

It's probably good that you didn't play it immediately then. The first game was one of those cases where the hype worked toward the game's detriment.
I fucking love the game myself, but I wasn't hyped for it much at all. It was kind of a random game I decided to try once I got a PS4 and didn't have much else to do, but I ended up surprised by just how polished the action really is, how fun the car chases are (I still don't see how people think the driving is shit), and just how satisfying it is all around to do a bunch of brutal vigilante shit. It might be a little limited in mission objectives and all that, but nothing about what it does feels half-hearted or unfinished. Good shooting, great stealth, and the most fun car chases I've personally ever had in a game.
Also, best minigames in a sandbox game ever. Seriously.
I recommend the hell out of it, just don't go in with too many expectations. Just let it do what it does and enjoy it for that. Seems like so few people are able to do that.

Oh, and the DLC campaign is pretty cool too. Adds a good bit of color and personality to the world, while the main game may have been a bit more drab.

Still bummed at the change in protagonist, but I'm excited to see what the new game is like anyway. It's still just... borderline shocking to me how much hate the first game got, and still gets. I can understand being irritated at glitches and bugs at launch (I played it much later than that, so it was never a problem for me), but once that shit was patched up, the game was ridiculously solid, brimming with personality, and just a fun ride all the way to the end.
Because of that continued backlash, I'm at least a little worried that the sequel will be changed just a bit too much for my liking, just to satisfy the moaners. Hope I'm wrong.
Guess I'll get some idea of it tomorrow.

Okay, was just watching the stream, saw just a few minutes of gameplay and visuals, and I'm pretty much sold. The visual groove of the original seems to be intact, and the gameplay just looks like an expansion of the original. Everything looks similar enough to the original, while obviously expanded to offer more options.
That's really all I wanted.
Still remains to be seen what the protagonist is actually like, personality-wise, but I'm loving what I'm seeing in all other areas.

It looks good, I actually enjoyed my time time with Watch Dogs, but once I beat it there was nothing left to do but Mundane tasks, I hope they can fix that this time around.

I'm not sure what to think of their trailer after the fiasco that happened with first game.

People just nutted over the graphics for the first game when it was first shown at E3, and then trashed the game once it came out because the graphics were downgraded a bit. I keep seeing that same basic comment everywhere else about WD2: "the graphics are going to be downgraded." Usually in harsher terms everywhere else, but the sentiment seems to be the same.
But why is that such a fear? Nothing in the presentation of Watch_Dogs 2 feels unreal; if anything, the graphics don't look as good as most other AAA stuff coming out. The only thing I can guess at is that Ubisoft learned a lesson with the first game, and are actually showing what the game will indeed look and play like. They're certainly being honest with their showing of the gameplay (it looks just like the first, but expanded), and like I said, the graphics don't look amazing necessarily, so it seems they're being really honest there as well.

It's more the fact that Ubisoft tend to downgrade pretty much every game they show off at E3. People got angry at Ubisoft a few days before E3 when this video started going around:

Watch Dogs 2 I'm sure will still look and play amazing but the internet crybabies will claim it's the worst thing since the holocaust if the frame rate isn't exactly as it was in the demo since it can continue to fuel their hate train.
