I think Ryo was liveable personally, not so much Shenhua, but I always believed Yu when he said he wasn't satisfied either and the faces "hadn't really been deployed yet". Here we are nearly a year later, and he was absolutely right.

To me the new ones look a lot less cartoony, less glossy, I can certainly live with that.
And the hero light wasn't doing those any favors (nor those weird closeups for that matter).

I don't know if I would call it drastical change, but it's certainly an improvement (for my taste at least).

I think you're definitely going to be in the minority on this one.

Personally I thought the Gamescom Shenhua had a flat face that looked very featureless and plain from most angles, and those pencil neck proportions never looked quite right. Honestly that shot in the comparison I posted was the most flattering look we got at that model.

As for the clothes, they looked ill-fitting in the Gamescom progress video to me, so I'm glad they've made them look more... fitted.

To anyone that’s unhappy with how the faces look, don’t worry. They’ll be changed again next time we see it in a few months. Then those ones will also be changed the time we see it after that.

At this point I think YsNet will update the game every couple of months after it’s released and just change the faces every time.

Cannot get over how good Shenhua looks. She looks exactly like I hoped she would. There are elements of both the promotional art for the original games and elements of her in-game model. Hopefully Ryo turns out just as good when his model is finalised.

The new Shenhua model is a giant leap forward from where we've come, perhaps only second in quality to the Shenmue Online model.

I was just thinking, Shenmue Online was in development for nearly 3 years. During that time a musical score would have likely been composed and since Sega owns the right's to it, Yu should also be able to use the music for Shenmue 3 if desired.

Shenmue Online was drawing from the "music library" created for the first two games I believe. A lot of tracks are out there (weren't they taken from the website?) and quite a few are tracks we already heard in Shenmue/Shenmue II but the original versions with high quality synths and samples, rather than the versions run through the Dreamcast's music chip.

P.S - The above image is from a CG trailer remember. That's not Ryo's Shenmue Online model, neither were the CG renders of Shenhua how she was represented in the game. I don't think we ever saw her in-game model, and if I remember right from screens Ryo's was his Shenmue II model.

The new Shenhua is cute, but to me she doesn't even look like the same character anymore. Obviously things will continue to change, and if they didn't I wouldn't exactly throw a fit, but I think the one labeled with "apres" is her best SIII design so far.

Even though her look may likely change again until the game's release, I think the current Shenhua is already really on a level where it's close enough. When the screenshots dropped and I just looked at here in there as is, she didn't look that similar to how she was originally designed but when looking at the comparions, she looks a lot more similar, especially to the real time 3D models.
