The Shenmue Passport

Can anyone tell if Sakuragaoka's passport photo is a Photoshop? This seems mighty suspicious to me.

You can cease your suspicion, because Sakuragaoka's telling the truth. I tried dialing up to the Passport (American version) and in the "Urgent Messages" section, there is an update on Feb. 22nd of 2006 that says, "The Shenmue Passport is in update process. Come again and visit us!"




I am quite intrigued by this, to say the least.

I understand what is going on. Your passport is the Japanese Version of the passport. But, I think, if they updated the US passport, they'll update the Japanese too... ;)

I'm using the Passport included in "US Shenmue" that was released in Japan after
the release of Shenmue in the US. The difference comes from NTSC-J, then? :?

Maybe this has something to do with Sega re-releasing the dreamcast in Japan, or was that was rumors

So its impossible to connect to internet whit Dreamcasts modem + passport? I tryed yesturday connect but is just get message "cant dial up..."

I use PAL passport.

And i can't connect whit my JAP passport cos it doesn't work in my DC :x

:o :o Wow! I think the Passport may actually be coming back up!! I've been searching out the internal directories in the Passport's files, and I see Passport files are gradually coming back to Shenmue's official site! http://passport.shenmue.com After looking at Shenmue Passport's executable file with a hex editor, I found the directories of the Passport part of shenmue.com where all the Passport info was held, like downloadable characters for the VMU, profile information, etc. Take a look at this link... http://passport.shenmue.com/passport_us/ You can browse the files and see that files have recently been added, like these VMU character files in this folder http://passport.shenmue.com/passport_us/vm_data/atsumt/!!

This data you see coming back into these folders are what was taken down when the Passport closed down 4 years ago. It looks like it's really under construction and we're getting the Passport back! Why? I don't know, but seems like good news to me.

Edit again: What the?? :? :? All those links are dead now. I can't browse the folders in the site anymore. Did anyone else happen to see my links while they were accessible? You know I wouldn't lie about this.

My first post. I've signed up for being able to answer in this thread ;) .

With all my respects there're some aspects which make me doubt much. First of all, it seems much coincidence that the day which you tryed to dial-up was just the day when SEGA updated its server. Both dates, 22th February matches. Do you dial-up from time to time to try if it's gonna come back?

Second, I think that proofs aren't enough. First pic is taken with a Benq camera, ok. But it's easy to modify a pic and send a signal from the PC to a TV (using AV, S-Video or any other cable) The second pic seems to be taken directly from the Dreamcast signal (maybe using a TV card, ok) but the fact of having been modified in someway with Photoshop (for whatever it was done) remove any truth.

And finally, that links don't work. And it's not because of an "index.html" file, but because the subdomain "http://passport.shenmue.com" isn't registered on their DNSs.

Maybe I'm wrong, but understand there're some detials to doubt much. I would like to know your opion about all this. Thanks.

Some will do anything for a trinket of information.

Two people got the same screen, with two different methods. And suffice to say, one of those people was LanDC. Unless this was April 1st, he wouldn't confirm it like this.

It is registered and active. Static DNS may take up to several days to propagate throughout the 'net, depending on the owning DNS server's configuration.

I would have suggested to try 72.29.74.51 in place of "passport.shenmue.com", but it's a virtual server, so unless you include a "Host: passport.shenmue.com" header in the request, Apache will leave you at the door...
