I'm positive that Yu isn't the only person who knows the story of Shenmue. He's almost certainly produced some sort of script/timeline of the events of the entire saga, which the team at Am2 (especially those working on the story) would had to have known while working on the original two games.

It's looking very likely that if Shenmue III is made then Suzuki won't be at the helm, but there's still plenty of people at Am2 who worked on Shenmue I and II that know the future of the story he created.

You know what, Im pretty sure Shenmue would be on his mind, in a very special place at that, the same way any master piece is always in the mind of its author in important ocasions.
Ofcourse, it would know its place and I hope Suzuki has people who he loves and that love him enough to occupy firstmost his thoughts, and that he has lived many special moments worth remembering before remembering Shenmue.
Still, I have no doubts that Shenmue is one of such moments and... that this topic is dumb enough. Shenmue will end prior to his passing, save any work of the devil, who is a fine enough fellow so...

Well, I must say that he sometimes looked more tired than people in his age do. Especially when he was showing Shenmue Online he looked more tired and apathetic compared to just a few years before when showing Shenmue I and II for the first time. My guess was that he probably did get affected by the whole situation. Which also makes me think that he probably would give Shenmue some kind of thought before dieing. Along with some of his other work that he created.
Every artist, that is true artist, does have some special place in their mind for what they have created after all.
