Great Videogame Boxart

(Gaming discussion not related to Shenmue)

I don't think I ever even saw the show. The comic was where it's at. Excellent series of mostly short stories, all very 50s-style old-school sci-fi.
The Capcom arcade beat-em-up was great too (as all of Capcom's stuff was back then).

^^Despite being cg, both are great. I actually got the limited "silver" cover for Crisis Core when I picked mine up. And, though it isn't visible in that picture, I always liked that the Dirge cover actually has a sort of prismatic, shimmery effect to it. Looks really nice "in person".

I actually like cg game covers as long as their done right, but most of them arnt.

For example, the yakuza games. Their western cover art is so bland and boring (Espessially Y3, half of Kazumas face....) Where as the dirge and crisis core one Illustrate the atmosphere of the game well and almost give u a glimpse into the characters personality (even though you cant see zacks face).

Another Cgi cover art i love is tekken 6

I don't know... it's definitely a nice piece of artwork, sure, but I don't actually think it has the proper composition for a cover. There are some cases where drawn artwork doesn't seem to work as well for a cover (rare though those times may be), and I think this is one of them. It's as if they just chose an image at random out of an artbook without considering any better candidates (and I've definitely seen a couple better pieces of art for Dirge that would have worked great for a cover).
It also doesn't look so good how the logo for the game is just sort of slapped right over the image, covering up so much of it.
Strangely, I actually think the whole thing is a little less eye-catching than the US one.
Eh, but that's me.

I am not pointing out this game he is looking at (even though OL loves atlus and this series) It's just that I like he is now reviewing game packaging since more and more games are wanting to go DD and in the process we lose something that completes the experience of having a physical copy.

Funny, I prefer the illustrated cover for Dirge.

The Western cover looks too bland. I never liked the Advent Children CG models.

I like GTA Art in general especially the old style but I love this cover (even though I think it ripped off a film)

While this had the basic Master System white-squares package, the use of a realistic character so prominent in the box set it apart from the more common 80s anime-like or more lo-fi graphics that were avaiable. The deep use of dark colours for Musashi set a nice contrast with the white background, and granted his eye a very focused expression that made this possibly the most attractive cover for the system. The game was great too!

^Hehe, yeah, very smooth lines. Maybe vynil? Like a fetishist.

Anyway,

I think this is one of the best covers of this generation. It's a very powerful image, has a lot of detail... it's almost a disturbing homage to the imagetics of 2001: A Space Odyssey.
