Good. Has anyone here seen Hardy in Inception by the way? I could not imagine him as Hugo Strange at all..

I read somewhere that he could play Strange like a character he played in another film but for the love of me i cant remember what the film name was or where i read it.

Dont remember him in Band of brothers or Black Hawk Down but i know in Inception and Rocknrolla he was more of the comedy character and no way will he be like that if he was Strange.
Still hoping for Deadshot myself but cant see it happening.
And lets not tone it down a much as possible this time just to keep it a 12. If it has to be a 15 then so be it.

Had no idea he was in RocknRolla. That's the only film I've seen of his that you mentioned. Inception granted.
Deadshot would really fit in Nolan's style, it's already proven in Gotham Knight for me. I'm really hoping it's Black Mask, but again, he's been done in Under the Red Hood. I'm fearing if they repeated a character already used in such a small timeframe people would get picky about continuation or plotholes, whatever. What this last film needs is a character from the comic books like Hush or Great White Shark. Someone no-one can draw comparisons too and from scene one, Nolan can put his own fingerprints on the portrayal..

Great White Shark's one of the worst and most pointless characters to ever appear in the DCU, and Hush only became a decent character when Paul Dini wrote him. TDKR either needs a better villain from Gotham's Rogues Gallery, or none at all.

^You're thinking of Tom Hardy playing Bronson. Doesn't make me particularly think he'd fit Strange through that performance though it was good.

Yeah, Great White Shark is a weak version of Black Mask. Black Mask would be perfect since in the comics he's a businessman who knew Bruce as a kid and also knew Bruce's parents. After he went into business (after burning his own house down, intentionally killing his own parents, whom he hated), he basically pissed away the entire fortune and lost everything through failed pharmaceutical cosmetics products being released that fucked up the faces of countless women. He was barely saved by his business rival, Bruce Wayne. This is when he lost his mind and became Black Mask. Shortly after that, he formed his own group called "The False Faces" who gassed employees of Wayne Corp and kidnapped Lucius Fox. The interesting part is that he had a vendetta against Wayne instead of Batman. After being thwarted by Batman a few times, he went further; he ordered his gang to brutally scar anybody who refused to join his gang. He even killed one of the Robin's (but that got retconned, of course). The guy is a grade A creep and one of the most insane characters in Batman's rogue gallery and has a great backstory that would fit perfectly in Nolan's films, one of my favourites.

C'mon Henry, ain't it blatant that I already know Black Mask's back-story? Did you know that there has been another Black Mask, and he blew up Arkham Asylum, oversaw it's rebuild, and then got locked away there?

Also, Black Mask didn't kill Robin IV, he tortured and beat her brutally, but it was Leslie Thompkins who 'killed' her (another character who would fit in well for the third installment.

The post wasn't really aimed at you, Mittens.

And Ryan, I've read it. Not that impressed. Sorry. Yet to see the animated movie. Not a fan of Mark Hamill's replacement at all. My favourite Batman comics that I've read include the Knightfall saga (personal favourite), No Man's Land, Strange Apparitions, Long Halloween, Prey, The Cult, War Games & Gotham by Gaslight, in other words, I personally like the more mystery/detective styled Batman and very few of the ones which are all about large scale mayhem. I wish there was a Batman film with him as a detective for a change...

Only clocked that on the second read. I reckon Knightfall was boring though. I really like the detective style Batman myself too, but I highly recommend Grant Morrison's run on Batman (incl. Batman & Robin, Batman Inc., Final Crisis, etc.) It's simply amazing.

I also recommend readin Fabian Nicienza's run on Robin & Red Robin - nobody can write Tim Drake better, imo. The Man Who Laugh's a great read too, as is the back-up to the graphic novel, which is a Batman-Green Lantern (Alan Scott) team-up called 'Made of Wood'.

You can also find a surprisingly decent cross-over in Batman-Predator too. Then there's Dark Moon Rising, which is Matt Wagner's re-telling of Hugo Strange and his Monster Men and the Mad Monk case. He also wrote a great three-parter with 'Trinity'. The way he characterises Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman is truly applaudable.

I could give you an endless list of hidden gems too such as Tenses, Haunted Knight, Testament, Gothic, and Pete Milligan's Dark Knight, Dark City. There are plenty others which I seem to have forgotten about too. Journey into Knight's a story you may or may not enjoy. It's kinda anti-Batman, as they tried to make him a little... too optimistic, and it can get boring at parts. Nevertheless, it's something that you may or may not enjoy.

I appreciate the recommendations. I don't read as often as I did back in the day (and I was never as much of an avid fan as you are, then again, who could be?), but I do read a Batman story every couple of months and was running out of stories to read (since I only go for the collected books rather than the singular comics) so I now have some extra stuff to check out. Thanks.

Any of Nightwing's comics you can personally recommend? Have you checked out the new Batman Beyond comic? Big fan of the TV series myself, so I am anticipating it a bit.

Never liked Batman Beyond myself. I tried to get into the mini-series, but I just couldn't. They're building on it's success now though and releasing an on-going (it's been one of DC's most requested for years)

As for Nightwing, the early Chuck Dixon stories when he first moves to Bludhaven are good, but after that I became bored with the character. He was only ever worth reading when in Gotham. I much prefer him as Batman now. Again, Grant Morrison simply perfected his character, Tony Daniel's doing well, and Snyder's take on things in Detective is looking promising.

The thing with Nightwing though is that he's a social character. When in the presence of other heroes, he's light hearted, and I love that about Dick Grayson, but when he's alone he can still be a little grim and serious at times. A grim and serious Dick Grayson is good in moderation, but in Nightwing he became just that, as he was the sole protector of Bludhaven. And I didn't give two shits about him moving to New York (again, they tried to make him a little too serious, and a little too Bruce Wayne)

Oh, and that's summat else, never - and I mean never read Dick Grayson as written by Judd Winnick. He's way too emo.

Reet, ta (Yeah, I hadn't heard good things about Judd's run on Nightwing) . Have you ever checked out Moon Knight? I just got the first volume of the older series a week back and found it to be really quite good, just had to make a recommendation back to you, since I think it might be up your alley.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_Knight

Just if you decide to check it out, do not go for the newer series, since it's supposed to be shit ("Vengeance of Moon Knight"), just stick with "The Bottom" series.
