Shenmue Collections & Merchandise

(Chapter 1 | General Series Discussion)

Re: Shenmue Collections

Why is there talk of a scam in the first place? There is no scam at all. Its an auction on a credible website where its anyones free choice to bid/purchase the item thats available. How is anyone being scammed? If its because its not really the "Shenmue" watch from in the game, then its irrelevant because such a watch doesnt exist. There is the original Timex Expedition from which the game bases its watch on, and there was a rare collectors edition branded and boxed by Timex.

If there is an issue with the value the person is selling the auction for, well theres nothing much that can be based on fact, its just the sellers opinion on what he/she feels the item is worth. At the end of the day its a discontinued item, thats rare in general to find and also is something that influenced pop culture in the late 90s.
If anyone has the money and agrees the price then more power to them for buying something they want. But no one is being scammed at all.

But anyway you can't call "Shenmue Watch" to a Timex expedition.

Holy cow, here's a lovely rarity: The double-CD soundtrack with film cell. Shipping says to UK only- but that's never stopped me from asking sellers. ;)

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shenmue-Rare-Double-CD-Soundtrack-/160799252331?pt=UK_CDsDVDs_CDs_CDs_GL&hash=item257061df6b#ht_500wt_1181

Great starting bid price and there's only two days left. Someone grab it!

Why not. The in game Shenmue watch is the Timex Expedition model no. T43371, modified to have YS on the straps, and for legal reasons has the "expedition" removed from the face. Apart from that, its the exact copy of that model.

I think it depends on the way you look at it. Since it is virtually the exact same model that's in the game, I get that it's called the Shenmue watch.

But for me, since that version of the watch carries no Shenmue branding on it whatsoever, it feels a bit misleading that the seller uses "Shenmue Timex Watch Ryo Hazuki Rare Sega Dreamcast" as their title, when technically the only words that really apply are "Timex Watch".

The other thing that makes it feel a bit misleading for me is how conveniently small the images for the listing are. I had to do some serious Photoshop zooming to make sure it wasn't the official merch (Perhaps my eyes aren't so good ;). It's possible that someone might pick it up thinking it's the official watch and would no doubt be disappointed if that's what they thought they were getting.

Anyway, that's just my take, for what it's worth!

Timex watched are cheap and crap but I don't mean this in a cynical way but I love how only us Shenmue fans get excited over a Timex watch. Be like if Shenmue has a Zenith/Sanyo/Coby branded TV and Shenmue fans would be all over it. :)

Because it's not the Shenmue edition. The Shenmue Timex was made as a limited item with the name of the game in the watch.
This wold be similar if (for example) Mitsubishi were trying to sell you a Lancer for the price of a Lancer Evo just for having the same body kit and wheels.

Wow... just the word Zenith made me nostalgic for some reason. We used to have a shitty Zenith TV that would flash anytime explosions happened in Mega Man X. I used to get so frustrated when I was little because of that TV. Haha.
